Surgical procedures
A small skin lesion on the face or body — some people aren’t bothered by it at all. For others, it can cause insecurity or discomfort in daily life. Fortunately, many skin irregularities can be effectively treated by a cosmetic physician. The result? Hardly any visible trace. Curious which skin conditions we treat in our clinic? You’ll find all the information on this page.
Small benign skin lesions on the face or body — though harmless — can cause discomfort or insecurity. In our clinic, a cosmetic physician can remove many of these skin blemishes, leaving hardly any visible trace. Below you’ll find an overview of which skin abnormalities we treat and how the process works.
We believe in naturally beautiful results. Every client is unique and receives personalized care. Prior to any procedure, a free consultation with our KNMG‑registered cosmetic physician is required.
What we treat in Delft:
Nevi / Moles
Moles are brown or black skin spots caused by clusters of pigment-producing cells. They can be congenital or develop over time and are influenced by factors like genetics and sun exposure. Three types are recognized:
• Normal nevi: symmetrical, sharp border, uniform color, smaller than 6 mm, stable.
• Atypical nevi: irregular shape, mixed colors, ≥ 6 mm, or changes over time.
• Malignant nevi (melanoma): potentially spreading; these are referred to a general practitioner.
At our clinic, we only remove benign moles, typically after confirming the diagnosis through pathological analysis.
Large fibromas (skin tags)
Fibromas, also known as skin tags or acrochordons, are benign skin growths. They vary in size from a few millimeters to over a centimeter. Common causes include age, heredity, friction from clothing, and overweight. Though harmless, they can be visually bothersome or irritating. Smaller fibromas can be treated by coagulation; larger ones require shaving or oval excision under local anaesthetic.
Elevated benign lesions
This includes well‑defined raised lesions such as:
• Sebaceous (epidermoid) cysts: firm, round bumps forming under the skin due to a blocked sebaceous gland. They often contain yellowish oily material.
• Dermal nevi: skin‑colored, slightly raised benign moles that are smooth to the touch and seldom change over time.
They are medically harmless, but they can still be cosmetically disruptive or prone to irritation. We remove them via shaving or oval excision with local anaesthetic.
Step-by-step surgical procedure
All procedures are preceded by a no‑obligation consultation, during which you discuss your wishes and the most suitable treatment plan.
During a consultation, your expectations are reviewed;
The physician examines your skin, makes a diagnosis, and discusses the appropriate treatment plan with you;
On the day of the procedure, the area is locally anaesthetised with an injection;
The skin lesion is removed using shaving or oval excision;
After the treatment, you’ll discuss the outlook and receive aftercare instructions.
After 7 to 14 days, you return for a check-up and any stitches are removed;
A small scar may remain, which will gradually become less noticeable over time.
Rates of surgical procedures
There is no reimbursement for the removal of skin lesions performed for cosmetic reasons. However, if a general practitioner or specialist determines that removal is medically necessary, the procedure will be carried out by them and covered by your health insurance.
| Surgical removal of raised lesions under local anaesthesia | via shaving | from € 275,- |

Frequently asked questions
Showering
To ensure optimal wound healing, it is important to keep the wound dry for the first 12 to 24 hours. After that, it may get wet, but soaking should be avoided. We advise against long or hot showers, and the area should be gently patted dry afterwards. It is also best to avoid baths and swimming pools for at least 3 weeks.
Sun exposure
Avoiding UV radiation is crucial. Fresh scars can absorb extra pigment when exposed to sunlight, which may cause the scar to darken. To prevent this, it’s recommended to cover the wound or apply SPF 30 or 50 when spending time outdoors.
Scar cream
To support the healing process, we recommend using a scar cream. It helps reduce swelling more quickly, evens out skin tone, and keeps the skin supple. At Huid & Laser Kliniek Delft, we use Alhydran — a clinically proven cream that is well absorbed by the skin.
Exercise
We advise against exercising or performing strenuous physical activities during the first 2 weeks after the procedure.
A treatment usually lasts between 15 and 30 minutes. The duration depends on the size of the skin lesion and its location on the body or face. Of course, the cosmetic physician can provide more detailed information during a free consultation.
Because local anaesthesia is used, the treatment itself will not be painful. However, the injections for the anaesthesia may be felt as uncomfortable.
With shaving, a small superficial wound is created where a crust naturally forms and later falls off. This usually does not leave a scar. With an oval excision, an oval-shaped strip of skin around the lesion is removed, after which the wound is stitched, leaving a small scar.
